Working Group Meta-Research in Software Engineering and Knowledge Transfer
Welcome to the Working Group on Meta-Research in Software Engineering and Knowledge Transfer within the German Informatics Society (Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V.) GI Fachgruppe Architekturen (FG-ARC).
Our mission is to advance understanding of how software engineering research is conducted, evaluated, shared, and applied – combining scientific meta-research with practical knowledge transfer across academia and industry.
We see a specific opportunity in the role of software engineering meta-research in technology transfer. Firstly, results on meta-research, e.g., on appropriate, community accepted validation techniques for contribution types, helps to evaluate the potential of new research results for commercial projects. Secondly, many statements on the usefulness of new research ideas can only be achieved in real-world projects outside pure academic settings. In this line, this working group also sees meta-research as a mean to foster this bi-directional exchange between research and practice.
We bring together researchers, practitioners, and educators to explore methodologies, tools, infrastructure, and evidence that improve the quality, transparency, reproducibility, and impact of software engineering research and practice. Through collaborative activities, workshops, and publications, we aim to shape more effective research processes and enhance how insights flow into real-world software development and organizational decision-making.
We provide the materials of the GI working group via an open-access repository.
